MOORE, Okla., May 22, 2013 Executive and philanthropist Arthur E. Benjamin today announced the national launch of celebrity social media campaign with Melissa Rivers and Actress Taryn Manning to raise much needed funds for animal rescue efforts and disaster relief in Moore, OK. Benjamin will match a portion of funds collected on www.AnimalTornadoRelief.com and donate to the Central Oklahoma Humane Society.

“The disasters that struck Moore Oklahoma are emotionally shattering,” said Benjamin. “And while immediate efforts are being made on the ground to rescue animals in danger, recover lost animals, reunite families with their pets and rebuild the community, I can’t help but take action on what needs to be done. The awe of the situation struck the hearts of Americans, which is why it is so powerful that an ADRF fundraising campaign with Melissa Rivers and Taryn Manning be launched so people from around the country can find ways help – big or small. Through the unwavering efforts of the Central Oklahoma Humane Society and the American Dog Rescue Foundation, there is no doubt that we will make a difference in the aftermath of this devastation. Never has one click been so meaningful to thousands of lives – both animal and human.”

The funds raised from the celebrity campaign will assist to alleviate the costs accumulated from the immediate actions taken during the disaster relief including but not limited to staff, material and supply costs.

In 2011, Benjamin was instrumental in the disaster relief efforts in Joplin, MO, launching a national campaign to support the local animal rescue and recovery teams and provide immediate onsite emergency shelter and veterinary medicine. In conjunction with Joplin Animal Control, the Humane Society of Missouri, Humane Society of the United States and The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) Benjamin’s call to action supported the operation of shelters for homeless persons and their pets to ensure that as many animals as possible received necessary and prompt attention.

Things are certainly looking up for sweet little Roxy, recently rescued from death row at the Forth Worth Animal Shelter. Roxy’s new mama Kelly found her on a website of death row dogs and knew she had to do something. 

The trek from Texas to New York took some time, as well as financial support. American Dog Rescue Foundation gladly chipped in to help create this happy ending. 

She was a bit nervous on the ride home but was kissing me all the way,” proud mama Kelly said. “Her way of saying thank you I believe.”

Benjamin took time out of a taxing international travel schedule to support and serve as one of the principle sponsors of Tri-County Humane Society’s 11th Annual Doggie Ball on March 24. The evening featured special honored guest, K9 Deputy Kenzo, a black German Shepherd honored for his bravery when he shielded other deputies from gunfire in 2012.

The evening was accompanied by cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, dancing and dinner followed by a live and silent auction. All proceeds raised from the event benefit the supply of food, shelter and medical care for the thousands of homeless, abused and abandoned animals rescued each year by the no-kill shelter.

Tri-County Humane Society (www.tricountyhumane.org) is a no-kill organization. Once an animal is rescued by Tri County, it is saved for life. American Dog Rescue founder Arthur E. Benjamin and Kimberly Jenkins from Education & Animal Rescue Society (EARS) made an appearance on “Texas Living” today with a very special dog. Sea Lion is a canine ambassador working to bring awareness to the need to end the dog meat trade in Southeast Asia. His mother was killed as a part of this illegal and savage trade.

American Dog Rescue, Soi Dog and EARS have partnered in helping get this very special dog from Thailand all the way to his forever home in Australia – with Dallas serving as his six-month temporary home in the meantime.

Arthur E. Benjamin, inspired by an urgent plea from best-selling Author Dennis Lehane, will assist in the search for beloved furry family member, Tessa

BROOKLINE, MA (January 8, 2013) – Arthur E. Benjamin, Founder of the American Dog Rescue Foundation, inspired by the heartfelt plea from best-selling author Dennis Lehane, will assist in the search for beloved furry family member, “Tessa.” Missing since Christmas Eve, Benjamin is launching an all-out search via social media, a database of thousands by email outreach, local shelters, and fellow animal lovers across the country to help find Tessa Lehane.

The plot kicked off December 24, 2012, when Lehane, a 47-year-old author of books including “Mystic River” and “Gone, Baby, Gone,” discovered rescue Beagle Tessa had escaped from his yard after an outdoor gate latch did not completely lock. Lehane and his wife adopted the 4-year-old beagle not long ago from South East Beagle Rescue in Florida. Before that, Tessa was a stray in Georgia.

With the help of American Dog Rescue Foundation’s bandwidth, including website www.americandogrescue.org, respective Facebook pages and other media outlets, Benjamin hopes to bring resolution to the weeks of mystery and worry brought to Mr. and Mrs. Lehane over their missing pet. The crime novelist is offering a monetary reward, and has agreed to name a character in his next book after whoever finds Tessa.

Arthur E. Benjamin is a well-known activist, who is involved with several dog rescue and placement organizations, including Nowzad Dogs, the first and only animal rescue organization serving the dogs and cats of Afghanistan. Named “Operation Homeward Bound,” Benjamin has orchestrated efforts between soldiers from the Michigan Army Reserve, Nowzad, and his American Dog Rescue to relocate dogs from the Middle East to the U.S.

Benjamin’s American Dog Rescue Foundation is also committed to stopping the illegal meat trade in Thailand, which began with a puppy named “Sea Lion.” Benjamin partnered with the Education and Animal Rescue Society (EARS) in Dallas, Texas, and luckily found a foster willing to take Sea Lion for his six months of quarantine. “Sea Lion” has since traveled from Bangkok, Thailand, to his forever home in Melbourne, Australia, via a six-month stay in a foster home in Dallas, U.S.A.

Sea Lion, named for the gait of his walk having been born in Thailand with deformities in his legs, was one of two surviving puppies to a mother who was stolen, crushed in a chicken crate with countless other dogs and suffered a severe lack of nutrition. Plucked from a certain death by the Thai rescue group Soi Dog Foundation, a mother of two in Australia, Ellie Harris, wanted to support the incredible work of the Soi Dogs and on visiting their Bangkok shelter had an instant connection with Sea Lion and vowed to take him home to Australia. In battling the Australian quarantine laws, Harris spent weeks contacting foster homes across the world to see if they would help her. Philanthropist and founder of American Dog Rescue, Arthur E. Benjamin, heard about her quest and immediately agreed to find Sea Lion a home in the United States. Partnering with EARS, Benjamin found a foster in Dallas willing to take Sea Lion for his six months of quarantine.

“The story of Sea Lion shows the great lengths to which people will go, to save the lives of animals,” said Benjamin. “When animal welfare groups on three continents come together to rescue one animal it speaks volumes about the power of the international community working as one. Sea Lion is one of the lucky ones, but if his story can help raise awareness of the desperate need to cull the barbaric dog meat trade then there is no reason why countless other dogs can’t be saved as well. I can’t thank Soi Dogs and EARS enough for all they have done and will do to help reunite Sea Lion with Ellie Harris in his forever home.”
